Central Kansas Wedding Photographer Kelsey Stremel

I love weddings. I think it's the fact that each one is unique, beautiful and full of real emotions. Every wedding has a certain element of anticipation and a challenge to skillfully and beautifully blend fine art portraiture with intimate documentary photography. I love the constant challenge, the beautiful details, the real honest emotions. It's the best job in the world telling a couples love story in pictures.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few frequently asked questions for prospective brides and grooms. If you have any specific photography or wedding questions please don’t hesitate to send me an email or call, I’d love to visit with you about your wedding plans.

  • If we book you are you the one who will be shooting at my wedding? Absolutely! I can be a little controlling when it comes to my photography and I want all of your pictures to have the same quality and style as those you see on in my portfolio and on my blog.
  • What camera do you shoot with? Well, the key here is camera”s”. I bring an entire line of professional Canon camera gear. I’m sure you've heard the adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”? There is always a chance that something could go wrong at a wedding. A camera could be dropped, a card could become corrupt or maybe it could just malfunction. I come prepared with multiple camera bodies, lenses, memory cards, flashes, filters and accessories so that no matter what happens I can professionally and artistically capture your day.
  • Are you a fulltime photographer or just part-time? I’m a full time photographer. I’m proud to be a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), carry the proper insurance and pay my taxes to Uncle Sam. It is part of being a professional and owning your own small business.
  • Do we receive the digital files? Do we get the copyright? Yes and kind of. With every wedding package you receive a copy of the digital files either by download or on CD or DVD (Sales Tax May Apply). You also receive a personal use release so that you can make all the prints you want from whatever print lab you choose. (Although I must say our professional prints Rock!) The only things you can’t do with your pictures is resell them, re-edit them on your own or use them commercially.
  • Do you edit the pictures? You bet! For every hour I spend shooting, I spend at least 4 hours processing your pictures. So, you can safely figure that after an 8 hour wedding I’m spending the next 40 hours of photography work just editing. That doesn’t even include album design! I shoot in RAW which means a larger file and in the end a higher quality image for you. I color correct, sharpen and enhance every image from your wedding day and convert all of the files to JPG’s. Then I choose the best images from your day and add a special artistic touch to them (usually around 60). My vintage, grunge, textures and sepia’s are all created by hand. I want your images to be perfect and there is no set magic formula to make everything look good. It comes from dedication to perfection, hard work and time.
  • We have a break between our ceremony and reception. Can we break up our hours? My minimum Saturday wedding package includes 8 consecutive hours of coverage. The little break between your ceremony and reception is perfect for creating some beautiful pictures of you and your wedding party. We could stop at the park, downtown or at another special location and create some extraordinary portraits during this time. If you need me more than 8 hours, additional time can be purchased in addition to your package.
  • My family loves to take pictures, is it ok if they take some too? Of Course! Pictures are important (obviously) and it’s fine with me if they want to take pictures too.
  • What if things run late and I need you to stay later than we had planned? I’m more than happy to oblige! If you need me to stay later than 30 minutes though, you will be billed for any additional hours.
  • Will you get the posed family shots too? Yes. While I love photo journalism and creating gorgeous fine art portraits, it’s critical to also have posed family portraits as well. We’ll sit down before your wedding and talk about exactly what formal family groupings you will need and discuss how we can complete them efficiently on your wedding day.
  • How many pictures do we get? Typically around 400-600 images. Although if you have a long guest list and I am with you from the salon until the end of your reception you can expect more. There is no “limit” to how many pictures you will receive. Once your pictures are uploaded I will select the best images, the ones that I feel help tell your wedding day story the best. I also try to include as many pictures of your guests celebrating your wedding as I can.

Booking Questions

  • We decided you are the one! What do we do now? Thank you! I’m humbled and excited to be working with you. In order to officially book your date I must receive two things: a signed contract and non-refundable $500 retainer. Once I receive those two things you are booked!
  • Well, can’t you just pencil us in? We’ll pay the booking fee next month?   Sorry, I can not hold your wedding date based on a verbal agreement. In the order of fairness Stremel Photography has a first come, first serve booking policy. The only way to secure your wedding date is to sign the contract and pay your deposit.
  • When is our final payment due? Your final payment is due 2 weeks prior to your wedding date.
  • Can we make payments? Absolutely! I will even set up a payment reminder email if you would like to help you stay on track.
  • We don’t want/need an engagement session. Can we save some money by not having one? I will allow you to trade your engagement session for an additional hour of wedding day coverage and $250 print credit (Sales tax may apply). If possible though, I really think you should go ahead and have an engagement session. They are fun, relaxed and really awesome plus they give us a chance to get to know each other before your wedding day!
  • Do we have to decide what albums, canvases or other products we want when we book? Nope. You can upgrade or add on to your package any time before your wedding. So as the date gets closer and you need 2 more hours of coverage and  a stunning 16X20 float for your new living room, we can add them on.
  • Who do I make the check out to and where do I send it too? To Kelsey Stremel, 1734 Chetolah Gold Road, Hays, KS 67601

Please remember to contact me (Kelsey) if you have any questions!
